Guide - Perform A Comparison

To perform a file comparison:

  1. Close any open comparison results or editor windows.

  2. Click on the File Compare button or select Compare Files from the File Menu.

  3. Use the Compare Files dialog which follows to select the files to merge. You can type in the file names, select a previous file from the combo box (the image\B_DROP1.gif buttons) or use the path browsers (the image\B_PATH4.gif buttons) to navigate to the files.

  4. Make a choice in the Compare Files Dialog for the name of Merge File. The Merge File is a file that contains the combined material from the two files being compared.

  5. Make a choice in the Compare Files dialog about whether or not to automatically launch the editor and open the Merge File after the Comparison Result is generated. is also used to establish parameters such line prefixes, colors, orientation of the preview, etc.

  6. Click on the Merge File tab and make your choice(s) about the line prefix, header & footer strings. These are the strings that will delineate lines that are different between the two files.

  7. Click on the Display Settings tab and make your choice(s) about the alignment of the Comparison Results, whether to ignore whitespace or letter case, whether scrolling should be synchronized in the Comparison Results, and the colors to use for the text in the Merge File.

  8. Click on OK.
